How I Became the Therapist I am Today
For over 20 years, it’s been a real honor to help clients feel more confident, satisfied, and harmonious in living as their authentic themselves.
Witnessing my client’s freedom to be who they were meant to be, after a lifetime of struggling with childhood wounds, is a real joy.
Also, working with small successes is as important as working with the difficult stuff
My role is to guide and collaborate with my clients to help them be curios, and trust in the power of their own innate healing.To deepen the healing process, I’m guided by being mindfully present with my client’s experience in the here-and-now.
For myself and for some of my clients, this work can also be a spiritual journey.
Discovering My Path as a Therapist
Making deep connections and listening intently to people's experiences has always been enjoyable.
In 2007, when I saw that talk therapy still left my clients feeling stuck in old patterns, I began studying somatic therapy. Since then, I’ve added additional “tools” to be the best therapist I can be.
My Personal Journey
Personally, I know the power of therapy, as it helped me get over a difficult divorce and even thrive after being raised under the thumb of my two limited narcissist parents. I understand the desperation that can send a person to therapy.
As a depressed and anxious kid, I never imagined feeling this good—I’m so grateful.
My Budding Desire to “Be The Change” as an Ally
While I’ve been immersed in white privilege, I’m no stranger to oppression. I’m grateful as my early painful experience, albeit quite less pervasive and different, sparked my desire to be an ally with oppressed and “othered” people like my brown-bodied and LGBTQ brothers and sisters. We all deserve freedom!
Also, at age 6, while watching the L.A. Watts Riots (dating myself!) on TV. These injustices sadden, anger, and motivated me to be part of the change.
How I Spend My Free Time
I love music and dancing, which help nourish my soul. I also love hiking, photography, and the wanderlust of travel. Spiritually, I lean towards Buddhism.
