Therapy for Individuals
I can use regular talk therapy for the stuff of daily life such as: challenges at work, relationship issues or more satisfaction in life, I can help you know your own heart and mind.
Somatic talk therapy (Sensorimotor Psychotherapy by Pat Ogden) can be quite effective for resolving patterns.
Our aim is to discover unconscious, yet controlling, beliefs and behaviors and then update them in the emotional brain centers. For this we use mindfulness and study information arising from the mind-body connection. To learn from your direct experience; then we notice and your response that shows how automatic beliefs are wired in. After we discover the misguiding beliefs about yourself, and the world, we heal with some longed for nourishing recognition such as: “You’ve always been good enough.” Key is your mindful awareness, and my empathic attunement to your experience. This way I can better support and guide you to discover the root for core level change. I will teach what you know to do this process of creating core level change.
Since trauma is held in the body, we can use gentle Sensorimotor Psychotherapy by first remembering a brief sliver of a trauma, so we can mildly engage the nervous system. We then park the memory and then mindfully track only the body’s response. We move slowly to uncouple the hijacking animal defenses from traumatic memory. Common traumatic responses include: depression, sweating, going numb, hyper-vigilance, etc.
EMDR (Eye Movement, Desensitization and reprograming), if appropriate for your make-up, can deactivate symptoms of trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The act of remembering while attending to the alternating stimulus like: taps, tones or eye movements, can awaken the initial memory to help the brain reclassify render a disturbing event as no longer disturbing. Afterwards, the client feels more in control of their well-being.
